Call of Duty has been a yearly release since 2006, much like Madden, NHL and other sports titles. Over the years it's had it's ups and downs with it's games, some were big hits, others were bad misses, the past 4 or so years have been a mixed bag for Call of Duty, with the introduction of Warzone, traditional 6 versus 6 multiplayer has taken a serious hit in quality. However, this year was supposed to be the first of a 2 year cycle where the developers would focus on their game for a full 2 years. However, it now seems that Activision has decided to scrap that idea and instead of releasing a full year of content in 2023 for Modern Warfare II, the current active title in the series, it appears they have already abandoned it in favor of working on the next premium title for 2023. Call of Duty 2023 is set to be developed by Sledgehammer Games, the developer who last gave us Call of Duty Vanguard. One of the worst selling games in the franchise, which released in a mess of a state in 2021, after being pulled off of Call of Duty 2020 which had to be saved by Treyarch.
This year, it appears Activision has once again called upon their subpar dev studio in Sledgehammer Games to develop a full-fledged game to be released in Q4 of 2023. So what do we know about it? Well here's a list of stuff to expect for 2023's Call of Duty experience:
Infinity Ward in the past has stated their want for an origins story for fan-favorite character Simon "Ghost" Riley, could this be that game being headed by Sledgehammer Games but perhaps written by Infinity Ward? We'll have to wait and see. As of now it's believed that Treyarch will get to continue working on their game set to release in 2024, which is rumored to be a new entry in their popular Black Ops subseries. If anything changes, we will keep you up to date with the latest news surrounding Call of Duty 2023. keep it tuned right here at Revillution.
